The University offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in elementary education. The Elementary Education Program prepares students to be general classroom teachers at the elementary grade levels. This program leads to a generalist teaching license at both the primary and intermediate elementary grades (K-6). Coursework includes professional education courses, along with Foundational Studies and additional subject matter.
Starting with a textbook and finishing with experiences in the classroom, Elementary Education Majors will learn about and experience firsthand what it’s like in the shoes of elementary school teachers. Students participate in numerous semesters of field experience in rural, suburban, and urban schools.
The University offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in special education that prepares students for licensure at the preschool-12th grade levels in Indiana. Coursework includes professional education courses along with Foundational Studies. It is strongly recommended that students enroll in another education content area in addition to special education to increase marketability after graduation (for example, elementary education, math education, or science education).
You know this subject like the back of your hand, so why not teach it? You have the ability to shape young minds and create a lifelong impact. Each undergraduate college at State has education majors for students who are passionate about teaching a specific subject area. Alongside your education classes in the Bayh College of Education, you will have courses in other colleges about your chosen subject.
