Letter from President Godard

Welcome to Indiana State University.

It is an honor to serve as President of this remarkable institution and to welcome you to a university defined by purpose, momentum, and a deep commitment to student success.

At Indiana State, our mission is clear: to transform the lives of our students and strengthen the communities we serve. That mission is grounded in a long-standing Culture of Care and carried forward through a bold vision for the future—one that prepares students not only to earn a degree, but to build meaningful lives and careers.

Indiana State is a place where students are known, supported, and challenged. Our faculty and staff are deeply invested in student success, creating an environment where academic excellence, mentorship, and opportunity are part of the everyday experience. From the classroom to the laboratory, from internships to study abroad, our students are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and real-world experiences they need to thrive.

Our strategic plan, Take Root & Rise, reflects who we are and where we are headed. It is built on a foundation of innovation, access, and student-centered progress – strengthening academic programs, expanding career-connected learning, and ensuring every student has the support they need to persist, graduate, and succeed.

That work is happening across every corner of our campus. We are modernizing systems, enhancing the student experience, investing in our people, and building stronger pathways between education and opportunity. We are preparing students for the future while remaining grounded in the values that have always defined Indiana State: service, impact, and care.

Indiana State is also deeply connected to Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley. This university and this community have grown together for more than 150 years, and that partnership remains central to who we are. Through service, research, outreach, and collaboration, we are proud to contribute to the vitality and future of this region.

There is great momentum at Indiana State University, and I am excited about what lies ahead. Together, we are building a university that honors its legacy, meets the moment, and raises the opportunities of the future.

Thank you for visiting. I invite you to explore our campus, learn more about our community, and discover what makes Indiana State such a special place.

Go Sycamores!
