Discover Your Passion, Achieve Your Purpose

The John W. Moore Welcome Center is seen in the daytime, with blue sky and white clouds reflected in the building’s windows to the left. A large white Sycamore leaf on blue background is seen on the building’s red brick wall to the right, with the name underneath.

Whatever moves you, inspires you, and defines you — you’ll find it at Indiana State. You’ll connect with amazing people, build cutting-edge skill sets, and graduate ready for a successful career.

Two college students, both women with dark brown hair, talk and smile on a sunny Indiana State University walkway, with other students walking in the background and green trees, grass, and brick buildings surrounding the scene.

How to Apply as a Transfer

1. Determine Your Status

You may apply as a transfer student if you attended another college or university after completing high school or your equivalency credential.

You are required to disclose and submit all records of college-level coursework attempted or completed. Upon review, Indiana State University will determine what academic credits will transfer toward a degree or program upon enrollment.

2. Review Admission Requirements

Transfer applicants must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

3. Apply for Transfer Admission

We accept transfer applications throughout the year. Priority deadlines are:

  • Fall semester: August 1
  • Spring semester: January 1
  • Summer session: May 1

Note: Applications received after these deadlines will still be accepted, and we will attempt to have you enroll in your desired semester or term.

4. Submit Application Materials

  • Official transcripts from all universities attended:
    • Have official transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution to Indiana State University. Any records sent by an applicant will be considered unofficial and will not be utilized for admissions review. (See below for important details.)
  • Military forms: To receive credit for military service, you must submit a DD 214 and/or a Joint Services Transcript.
Military-affiliated students who are not Indiana residents will be granted the Indiana resident tuition rate upon admission.
  • Permanent Resident: If you are a permanent resident, please submit a copy of your alien registration card (Green Card).

Transcripts

  • Returning Students
If you’ve taken classes at Indiana State University before, you do not need to order an Indiana State transcript. We already have access to your coursework here.
  • What Makes a Transcript “Final”?
A transcript is considered final when:
    • It shows no coursework in progress.
    • If applicable, it lists your graduation date.
  • What Makes a Transcript “Official”?
    For domestic transcripts:
    • Must come directly from the issuing institution to Indiana State; must not pass through the student’s hands.

      Delivery options:
      • Email: admissions@indstate.edu
      • Mail:
        Indiana State University
        Office of Admissions

      • Electronic services such as Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse
  • Transfer Students Applying for an Undergraduate Program
To make a provisional admission decision, we can accept an official transcript that does not need to be final.
You can register for your first semester without submitting a final transcript if there is not a gap of at least one spring or fall semester between graduation/coursework completion and starting at Indiana State.
    • Example: Graduate Spring 2026 → Start Fall 2026 = OK

You must submit a final official transcript before registering for your second semester.

    • If there is a gap (e.g., graduate Spring 2026 → start Spring 2027), we must receive your final official transcript(s) before making an admission decision.
  • Which Transcripts do Transfer Students need to Submit?
If you have fewer than 12 college credits, submit:

    • Final official high school transcript
    • All college/university transcripts
    • All college/university transcripts (high school transcript not required)

If you have 12 or more college credits, submit: Permanent Resident: If you are a permanent resident, please submit a copy of your alien registration card (Green Card).
