Undergraduate degree programs
ISU Department of Mathematical Sciences prides itself in its small class size, as this allows our faculty to give students the personalized attention that they need to grow in their mathematical expertise and pursue individualized research projects.
The recently unveiled Data Science major helps our students engage with recent paradigm shifts in technology and scholarship. Continuing ISU’s rich tradition of training educators, we have a well-established math education program which has an excellent history of job-placement upon graduation.
Students have conducted original research in the SURE undergraduate research program and have gained crucial experience working as tutors in the departmental Math Lab which always seems to be a bustling hub of activity.
Graduate degree programs
Our online master’s degrees in mathematics offers students a flexible degree pathway in a largely asynchronous format, but students are often impressed by the amount of interaction they can have with their professors through virtual office hours and meetings. The program culminates in a research project that has at times led to referring to journal publications and conference presentations.
The MA program is geared toward educators and has been popular with high school teachers who are seeking promotion or need a credential to teach dual credit.
The MS program focuses more on mathematical content, and typical students include those wanting to pursue a PhD in math as well as those working in research labs or industry who want more mathematical sophistication to tackle a stubborn problem at work.
