The Department of Art and Design at Indiana State University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The department, which makes the creation of a friendly learning environment one of its priorities, is distinguished by its small classes and faculty members who are responsive to the individual needs and progress of their students. Spacious studios and ample equipment, among the best anywhere, enhance students’ hands-on experiences. Three exhibition galleries, including the University Gallery, offer a vibrant program that features established and budding artists, and acclaimed scholars from around the world. Opportunities for financial aid and scholarships for qualified students combine with reasonable tuition and housing costs to make Indiana State University one of the most affordable institutions in its class. Concentrations in Art and Design Include: Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Digital Art, Drawing, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture.

Bachelor of Art (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS)

The Art major offers two concentrations that encourage students to think and work creatively, to master a specific area of art production or history, and to become engaged members of a variety of artistic and scholarly communities.  Programs are designed to develop broad and versatile creative skills that prepare students in the areas of studio arts, design, education, multimedia, and more. Art Education All Grade majors earn a Bachelor of Science.

Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA)

The Bachelor of Fine Arts is a performance-oriented program that prepares students with a core set of artistic skills. Bachelor of Fine Arts graduates are prepared to enter the work market or to pursue a master of fine arts or related graduate degree. 

Graduate Programs 

The master of arts is a non-terminal, pre-professional graduate degree, recognized by NASAD and CAA. Options for studio concentrations include: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and sculpture-wood/studio furniture.

The M.F.A. is nationally recognized as the terminal degree in the  visual arts by NASAD and CAA. Options for studio concentrations include: ceramics, digital media, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and sculpture—wood/studio furniture.
