Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences!
We are the largest college at Indiana State University and its most diverse academic unit, offering nearly fifty different undergraduate majors and an equal number of minors. Many of these programs combine faculty and courses from different disciplines, offering students the chance to collaborate across departments. We also offer sixteen masters degree programs and three doctoral programs in our sixteen departments. Arts and Sciences faculty members are award-winning teachers and nationally and internationally renowned scholars who also provide service to the University, their disciplines, and the community. Students in the College will have many chances to engage in community service and experiential learning, including original research led by, and in collaboration with, faculty.
The College of Arts and Sciences is the academic backbone of the University. For nearly all students, we provide the vast majority of the University’s Foundational Studies program that is grounded in the social and natural sciences, the fine arts and humanities, English and writing, communication, math, and foreign languages. In short, we are home to the liberal arts and sciences. Our majors graduate from Indiana State University with strong skills in oral and written communication and critical reading and thinking, and with the ability to work collaboratively to analyze and solve problems from many different perspectives. As hundreds of studies confirm, year after year, these are the skills that employers value most highly, and these are the skills that prepare graduates for challenging and rewarding careers.
I invite you to peruse the pages of this website and visit us on Facebook. See what our departments and programs have to offer, and I think you’ll see why so many students come to Indiana State University and find a home, and their futures, in the Arts and Sciences.
