At Indiana State, we empower students with highly customizable academic pathways that integrate stackable credentials, recognize credit for prior learning, and offer flexible formats – ensuring every learner has access to dynamic, career-focused educational experiences.

Our Purpose

We are dedicated to student achievement by designing and implementing customizable academic pathways. These pathways incorporate stackable credentials, recognize credit for prior learning, and offer flexible delivery formats – including online, hybrid, and in-person options. Our initiative integrates career-connectedness and high-impact learning experiences, equipping students with practical skills and real-world knowledge.

By expanding access to high-quality, cost-effective educational routes, we shorten time to degree and improve graduates’ career readiness. These flexible pathways support recruitment, retention, and academic success for traditional, transfer, adult, and non-traditional students alike. Finally, through the Indiana State Preferred Partners Program, we strengthen collaborative industry partnerships, ensuring our curriculum aligns with workforce needs.

Objective

Initiative 3 is focused on implementing customizable academic pathways to provide high-quality, cost-effective educational routes that accelerate time to degree completion and boost students’ career readiness. To achieve these goals, the University will:

  • Design and implement customizable academic pathways that incorporate stackable credentials, credit for prior learning, and flexible delivery formats (online, hybrid, or in-person).
  • Incorporate career-connected, high-impact learning experiences in all academic programs.
  • Enhance recruitment, retention, and outcomes for traditional, transfer, adult, and non-traditional students.
  • Expand access to high-quality, cost-effective educational routes to shorten time to degree completion and enhance graduates’ career readiness.
  • Use the Preferred Partners Program to enhance collaborative industry partnerships with specific industry pathways.

Key Actions

The University will take the following actions in support of Faculty Development and Flexible Academic Pathways:

  • Streamline transfer-student and Credit for Prior Learning processes at the undergraduate and graduate levels with input from Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Student Experience units.
  • Develop, market, and launch additional undergraduate- and graduate-level stackable certificates and microcredentials tied to regional workforce needs. Expand the Preferred Partner Program through industry-specific credential offerings.
  • Implement accelerated program models (e.g., 8-week, 5-start) in priority fields such as Nursing, Cybersecurity, Aviation, and Construction Management.
  • Enhance access to flexible delivery modalities, pathways, and re-entry opportunities for all students.
