Our Purpose

We are committed to student achievement by regularly reviewing and updating Indiana State’s core curriculum to address the evolving educational and career-focused needs of our students. By collaborating with industry partners, we empower faculty to create and deliver essential, career-relevant content, ensuring students gain practical workplace skills and hands-on experience through applied learning opportunities.

Acknowledging the variety of educational backgrounds our students bring, we align our programs with workforce needs to deliver forward-thinking curriculum that prepares graduates to have an immediate, positive impact in Indiana and beyond.

Objective

To support Career-Integrated Curriculum, Indiana State will review and revise its core curriculum to respond to the intellectual needs of today’s learners and embed career-aligned competencies, ensuring students develop and understand essential workplace skills and tools through applied learning experiences. Toward this end, the University will:

  • Conduct a university-wide, holistic review of the core curriculum every three years.
  • Foster experiential learning in partnership with employers across various industries.
  • Support faculty development in designing and delivering critical, career-aligned content.
  • Assess career-aligned outcomes for all core curriculum courses.

 

Key Actions 

The University will take the following actions in support of Initiative 2:

  • Review and revise Indiana State’s core curriculum program to ensure it meets the evolving learning needs of today’s students and provides a holistic education.
  • Align the core curriculum with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) standard career competencies through career-related assignments or projects. Establish a continuous review process for evaluating NACE competencies within the core curriculum.
  • Continue to integrate technological innovation and responsible practice, including AI proficiency and ethical use, to prepare students for the modern world.
  • Provide faculty professional development focused on innovative and integrative teaching methods that adhere to best practices and align with evolving core curricular goals.

Initiative 2: Key Performance Indicators

90% of all full-time faculty, including all core curriculum instructors, will be trained in NACE competencies and emerging technologies such as AI. 

90% of courses in the core curriculum array will include at least one NACE competency, with all competencies mapped, incorporated, and assessed across the core curriculum.

75% of all academic units (departments and schools) will foster employer partnerships to contribute to experiential learning.

75% of students will be able to articulate or demonstrate how their Indiana State University experiences effectively develop transferable skills and career readiness.

Conduct a programmatic assessment of the core curriculum every three years to ensure it meets the evolving learning needs of today’s students by providing a holistic education.
