Dr. Mike Godard serves as the 13th President of Indiana State University, bringing over 25 years of progressive leadership in higher education. His career reflects a deep commitment to student success and academic excellence.
Since assuming the presidency, Dr. Godard has led Indiana State University through a period of strong momentum and strategic clarity. Under his leadership, the university launched its comprehensive strategic plan, Take Root & Rise, which is grounded in a Culture of Care and a commitment to Career-Connectedness. This framework is guiding institutional priorities around innovative curriculum, an exceptional student experience, and unified people and processes.
Dr. Godard has placed student success at the center of the university’s work, driving measurable gains in retention and persistence while enhancing the overall student experience. These efforts have been supported by strengthened advising models, expanded academic coaching, and more coordinated student support systems designed to provide personalized guidance and ensure students are consistently supported throughout their academic journey.
He has championed the continued evolution of academic programs to meet workforce and societal needs, expanding flexible pathways for learners and embedding career-connected experiences across the curriculum. Experiential learning opportunities – including internships, undergraduate research, service-learning, and project-based coursework – have been scaled to better prepare students for success after graduation.
Dr. Godard has also prioritized investments in faculty success, fostering an environment that supports professional development, research, creativity, and discovery. His leadership has strengthened collaboration across academic affairs, student experience, and enrollment management, creating a more integrated and student-centered university.

Academic Background
A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Godard earned a Ph.D. in Human Bioenergetics from Ball State University, a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Adelphi University, and a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Vermont State University.
Personal Life
Dr. Godard and his wife, Kathryn, reside in Terre Haute, Indiana, and are proud parents to their two adult sons, Grant and Lance.
