Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA)
Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to eligible members of the armed services to assist them with their tuition expense. Each service branch has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application processes, and restrictions. All approved TA authorizations must be submitted to Indiana State University's Office of the Controller Attn: Account Analysts.
Veteran & Dependent Benefits
Certification for educational benefits is a service provided by the Registrar's Office. This office will help students with the processing of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) forms for educational benefits, answer questions related to requirements, and submit enrollment certifications for each semester to the VA.
Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is awarded to a service member under the assumption that the service member will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. If a service member withdraws on or before the 60% portion of the period, the service member will no longer be eligible for the full amount of military TA funds originally awarded. Indiana State University will return any unearned TA funds on a proportional basis, per regulations, through at least the 60% portion of the period for which they were provided. The following return schedule may be adjusted based on the number of days in the semester for the course of study. The following schedule is based on a semester of 112 days (about three and a half months).
- Day 1-7 percentage returned 100%
- Day 8-11 percentage returned 90%
- Day 12-22 percentage returned 80%
- Day 23-34 percentage returned 70%
- Day 35-45 percentage returned 60%
- Day 46-56 percentage returned 50%
- Day 57-67 percentage returned 40%
- After Day 68 percentage returned 0%
Any unearned military TA funds will be returned to the military branch, not the service member.
