The Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the contemporary musical arts, promote the work of young American composers, and serve as a cultural resource for the university, local community, and the state.  The festival aspires to involve attendees in the creation, performance, and support of contemporary music expression and to further develop Indiana State University’s reputation as a national leader in education through contemporary music.

Music Career Day, scheduled for November 4, 2024, is an all-day event tailored to college-bound high school juniors and seniors and will provide you with information about musical opportunities at ISU. This special event offers information about music degrees and professions, private lessons and ensembles, course study, auditions, enrollment, and financial aid so that you can make wise preparations for college. Auditions will be available for students seeking to gain admittance to the ISU School of Music as majors or minors and/or for performance scholarship consideration. In addition, if you choose to, you may apply and gain admittance status while you are on campus! The event typically runs from 8:30am to 4pm with auditions occurring during the 4:00 hour. There are many opportunities for scholarships available to prospective ISU students. To qualify for as many as possible, you should apply as soon as possible. Additional information regarding scholarships is available on the University Scholarship pages.

If you plan to attend this free event, please fill out the online registration form or send in the printable registration form available below. Parents are also welcome to accompany you. Music Career Day is especially informative and exciting, and we hope you can attend. However, if you are unable to attend, we will be happy to schedule an audition and information session at another time. Students must audition and be admitted to the University by March 3, 2025, in order to be considered for School of Music scholarships.

President’s Concert to Feature University’s Finest Musicians


Thirteen of the best and brightest musicians from Indiana State University’s School of Music presented the 2022 President’s Concert at 2:00pm, Sunday, February 27, in Boyce Recital Hall of the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts. This year’s concert featured a wide variety of music from classical through contemporary eras by composers such as Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Glazunov, and Richard Rodgers. Each student was selected to participate based on outstanding performances in each area of instrumental study during the fall semester.

Join the ISU Flute Studio for the Indiana State University Flute Fair on January 20, 2024! The Flute Fair is open to everyone and will include a Flute Choir for all ages, exhibits by the Indy Flute Shop and Micah Layne, a recital, and pizza lunch provided by the ISU School of Music. The Flute Fair will also include the Sycamore Flute Soloist Competition with prizes sponsored by the Indy Flute Shop.

Named after Linda Luebke, a cellist and beloved Music Education professor at Indiana State University from 2008 until her passing in 2013, the Linda Luebke String Festival is hosted at Indiana State University and offers string students in grades 5-12 an opportunity to build their musical skills and abilities. This 2-day event features guest artists, guest educators, small and large ensembles, technique classes, music theory, and other enrichment activities.

The 2024 festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 28-29. In addition, a pre-festival chamber music recital will take place on Friday evening, September 27, at 7:30pm. The Indiana State University Faculty Piano Trio will perform the music of Beethoven and Brahms in the Boyce Recital Hall of the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts. All string students are welcome and trial lessons and/or auditions can be scheduled by contacting Dr. Yunjung Lee at (Yunjung.Lee@indstate.edu).
