Indiana State University’s Office of Campus Recreation offers American Red Cross certification classes, including Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Instructor classes. All sessions are held in the Wet Classroom at the Student Recreation Center.

Become Certified and Save Lives 

Choose from a variety of American Red Cross Certification courses to become trained in CPR and other first aid certifications. You must be at least 16 years old on the day of the course. 

The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class that doesn’t meet the minimum enrollment requirement of at least three participants the day before the class begins. American Red Cross Certification courses are held in the Wet Classroom located in the Student Recreation Center on Indiana State’s campus in Terre Haute, Indiana. 

All courses are Blended Learning, requiring the study portion to be completed online prior to attending the in-person skills class. Website links will be emailed by the instructor prior to the class date.

Courses

The Basic Life Support course equips you with the skills to assess and respond to life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, airway obstruction, and opioid overdose. Designed for healthcare providers, this training emphasizes fast action, high-quality CPR, and sharp critical thinking to deliver the best possible outcomes.

This course covers the latest science and teaches you how to respond to real-life emergencies – from burns, cuts, and sudden illnesses to head, neck, and back injuries, heat and cold emergencies, and breathing or cardiac events. You’ll learn how to care for adults, children, and infants, giving you the confidence to step in when it matters most. Certification is valid for two years. 

American Red Cross lifeguard training prepares you to keep others safe in, on, and around the water. You’ll learn important rescue techniques, surveillance skills, CPR, first aid, and AED use through hands-on, scenario-based training. Whether you’re just starting your first job as a lifeguard or advancing your skills, this course gives you the confidence and lifesaving abilities to protect others.
