Traditional Housing

Traditional housing at Indiana State University offers a vibrant and diverse community where you’ll connect with students from all backgrounds and academic interests. From First Year Experience communities designed to support freshmen to Returning Student communities tailored for upperclassmen, you’ll find the perfect environment to live, learn, and grow. 

Break Housing

Break housing provides a convenient and reliable option for students to stay in their room or apartment when the university is closed or classes are not in session. It’s perfect for international students, those working locally, or anyone who needs a welcoming place to stay during break periods. 

Join a Living-Learning Community!

Indiana State University’s Office of Residential Life offers many on-campus Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) where students can engage with others around a common academic or interest area. In these communities, students take a common course together, and attend workshops, guest-speaker events, and other activities as a group. Students live and work together in an on-campus residence building.

Major-Specific Living-Learning Communities

The Aviation LLC helps students successfully transition into the aviation program by building relationships with peers and aviation faculty members. Students take major-related courses together. They have more access to their aviation faculty, advisors, and other unique experiences only available to aviation majors.

The Business LLC is designed for students enrolled in the Scott College of Business. Students benefit from special events, guest speakers, and resources to strengthen their professional development and enhance their passion in business.

Students in the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology can join an LLC to take their classroom studies and apply them in unique ways with events in their residence hall. Students take major-related courses together, and they have direct contact with their engineering and technology faculty and staff inside and outside of the classroom setting.

The Health Professions LLC is designed for students enrolled in the College of Health and Human Services, but also students in a Pre-Dental or Pre-Medicine program. Students participate in learning opportunities centered around their interest in the health professions.

The Honors College LLC is for students accepted into Indiana State’s Honors College. Students live in either Pickerl or Burford Hall with open lounges, study spaces, sound-proof practice rooms, a performance stage, and spacious meeting rooms where students are able to have a rich social and intellectual experience alongside peers who are passionate about academics. Honors College students come from all majors and backgrounds. They work closely with faculty and their peers in small classes, discussion groups, field trips, and study-abroad trips.

The Secondary Education LLC is designed for students enrolled in the Bayh College of Education. The community unites future teachers across a range of fields – English, Social Studies, Math, Art, Science, and Languages. Students take major-related courses together, attend lectures, meet with alumni, and join teaching-related organizations as a group.

Interest-Specific Living-Learning Communities

The 21st Century Scholars community is for students that have been award a 21st Century scholarship. Students will live with other 21st Century Scholars and engaging in programs and events specifically designed to help them succeed.

 

The Gender Inclusive LLC provides an inclusive environment where specific gender assignments are not required. Students must sign a second community contract with the Office of Residential Life pledging to assist in providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students in the community. The LLC focuses on providing and sustaining a welcoming environment for LGBTQIAP+ students and allies.

Ignite is not your typical college experience—a comprehensive program designed for Indiana State University students passionate about personal growth and community leadership. Guided by the 8 Pillars of Success, participants break down traditional academic boundaries by learning alongside those in their living communities, exploring various perspectives and challenging conventional thinking to develop skills that create meaningful impact. Students will discover their unique potential, build powerful connections, and emerge as innovative leaders equipped to navigate complex community dynamics and drive lasting positive change. 

8 Pillars of Ignite

  1. Collaboration and Support:
    Students will work together to overcome academic challenges, strengthen interpersonal connections, engage in meaningful discussions about differences, and prepare for future achievements. 
  2. Leadership Development:
    Students will articulate the value of enriching their educational journey through participation in activities beyond the classroom and contributing to their communities. 
  3. Self-Discovery and Perspective Building: 
    Students will engage in meaningful exploration of how their background, values, and experiences shape their understanding of the world. They will reflect on how these factors influence their relationships, decision-making, and approach to collaboration with others. 
  4. Self-Reflection:
    Students will translate knowledge into action and evaluate the effects of their actions on communities by examining their own values, beliefs, and interests. 
  5. Professional Success:
    Students will identify their aspirations and acquire skills to achieve personal and professional goals, including planning pathways toward fulfilling careers. 
  6. Fostering Connection:
    Students will build meaningful relationships with individuals from various life experiences and perspectives and clarify how their own values and identity influence their perspectives and connections with others. 
  7. Academic Excellence:
    Students will develop effective learning strategies, prioritize wellbeing as it relates to academic performance, and utilize relevant academic policies and resources to meet their educational objectives. 
  8. Community Engagement:
    Students will access campus resources and participate in opportunities that enhance their learning within and beyond the classroom.

The I-Succeed LLC assists historically underrepresented students with the transition from high school to Indiana State. As a group, students develop strong academic skills, study strategies, leadership and professional skills, take success strategies courses, and learn how to have a strong work/life balance. Students move in one week early to attend workshops and programs.

The Latinx LLC provides a space for students who identify as a part of Latino and/or Hispanic communities with programs, workshops, activities, family dinners, game nights, and field trips. The community helps students create a sense of belonging and build a network of support at Indiana State.

 

The Lead LLC is designed for students who want to become future leaders on campus and beyond. Students participate in community service projects, take leadership courses together, and participate in other leadership programs. Students are required to move in one week early and participate in Bridge Week.

 

Pathway to Indiana State LLC helps students who are currently enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College. Instead of taking classes at Ivy Tech, students take all of their classes on Indiana State’s campus, live in the same residence hall, and have full access to on-campus dining, facilities, clubs, and events. This LLC helps students transition to enrollment at Indiana State through workshops, co-academic advising, and community events.

The Project Success LLC is a transformative experience designed to help students transition to college, engage with faculty and staff, and immerse themselves in the campus community and their chosen academic field. Students participate in Bridge Week, live in an LLC community, build a peer network, complete a success class each year, and engage in other programs to ensure their success.

 

The ROTC LLC is intended for ROTC students to live together as they share their interest in military service. Students experience traditions, customs, and camaraderie with current members of Army and Air Force ROTC programs. Residents must enroll as active cadets in their respective ROTC branch. Members of the LLC are subject to Detachment or Battalion approval.

The Transfer Student Community LLC is designed for transfer students to live and work closely together. Staff provide tools to help students enjoy a smooth transition to Indiana State.
