ADA/Medical Accommodations
Indiana State University provides a climate of equal opportunity to all of its programs, activities, and services, and is in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. To this end, Indiana State provides accessible housing for students with disabilities as defined by these laws. To qualify for protection under these laws, the student must provide documentation from a qualified examiner that substantiates that the student has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity and that the requested accommodation is necessary to afford the student equal access.
Residential Life works with the Accessibility & Advocacy Resources Office (AARO) to coordinate residential accommodations for Indiana State University students with physical, neurological, and psychological needs. For full consideration of residential accommodations, the student should begin the request process with AARO prior to the date listed for the term in which the accommodations are needed.

Summer Session | April 30th | April 30th |
Fall Semester | April 15th | June 30th |
Spring Semester | November 1st | November 1st |
Students submitting special accommodation requests after the dates indicated above will be accommodated as quickly as possible, when acceptable space can be determined. If a student is offered a change to the housing environment, an additional cost may be associated with the resulting assignment or requests.
Temporary Medical Conditions
If a student is experiencing a temporary medical condition that affects the student's mobility, AARO should be contacted to confirm the need for possible room options or reassignment, if space is available.
Emotional Support Animals
Residential Life is dedicated to accommodating students who require the support of an emotional support animal (ESA), as determined by the Accessibility & Advocacy Resource Office (AARO). Once AARO confirms the need for an ESA, Residential Life will review the specific animal requested and requires additional documentation to ensure it is suitable for on-campus housing and living in a community environment. Approval for an ESA does not constitute a change in room type or housing assignment. Students should not bring an ESA to campus until all documentation has been reviewed and a meeting regarding guidelines and policies has taken place with Residential Life. To ensure a smooth process, students are encouraged to begin the process as early as possible, as it may take time.
