The College Challenge program is a dual credit opportunity that allows high school students at partner schools to earn transferable college credit on an Indiana State University transcript ISU credit. College Challenge courses are taught at high school by university-approved high school teachers. High school teachers must meet University and Higher Learning Commission credentialing standards, and courses are evaluated and approved for dual credit partnership based on nationally recognized standards for pedagogy, content, and rigor.  All College Challenge dule credit courses are tuition free!

Instructor/Course Eligibility for Dual Credit

To have a course and instructor approved for dual credit, specific criteria must be met:

  • Course Eligibility- We will review your course materials for academic quality, rigor, and pedagogy that meets the learning objectives of the Indiana State University course. Dual credit, on-campus, and online courses are held to the same standard to ensure that all learning objectives are met, regardless of mode of delivery. The Faculty Liaison for your discipline will review and approve the course syllabus, and work with you on any areas that require adjustments.
  • Instructor Eligibility- Indiana State University follows the Higher Learning Commission Guidelines for dual credit instructors. When reviewing a teacher’s application to teach dual credit courses, we look at the instructor’s academic credentials, teaching experience, and other relevant professional experience. Teachers who meet one of the following criteria can be approved to teach dual credit:
  1. Earned master’s degree in the dual credit course discipline
  2. Earned master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the dual credit discipline
  3. Teachers who do not meet criteria 1 or 2 can be approved via a combination of academic credentials and equivalent professional experience. Teachers who are working toward necessary academic credentials can also be approved under the umbrella of a Developmental Plan, which lays out a specific timeline to complete the necessary credential while teaching the dual credit course under direct supervision of a University Faculty Liaison.
  • New Instructor Training and Professional Development Requirements
    • All new dual credit instructors are required to complete on-boarding and initial discipline-specific training with their University Faculty Liaison prior to teaching the dual credit course.
    • All dual credit instructors are required to participate in an annual discipline-specific training workshop. These can be completed in-person/on campus or via online/interactive session with your University Faculty Liaison and other dual credit instructors.
