Educate and Coach Today’s Youth
As a Physical Education All-Grade major at Indiana State, you will apply the theoretical knowledge of physical fitness to multiple areas of study including:
- Fitness, net sports, team sports, and dance
- Human growth and motor development
- Social behavioral aspects of physical education
- Teaching theory and methods
You will become knowledgeable about pedagogy, physiology, biomechanics, and sports activity. And you will work with local students in all grade levels -- high school, middle school, and elementary school.
You will also participate in social activities, such as intramural sports, and volunteer as a coach, instructor, and mentor at community centers, sports centers, the Boys and Girls Club, the Family Y, and after-school programs at local school corporations. The program concludes with a semester-long student teaching experience.

Get Active at Our Student Recreation Center
We encourage all students to exercise and participate in activities at our Student Recreation Center [SRC]. For students pursuing a degree in physical education all-grade, the 109,450-square-foot facility will become like a second home.
The SRC has a number of popular features including:
- Cycling room, for instructor-led classes
- Fitness center with cardio and strength-training equipment
- Multi-Activity Court [MAC] designed for indoor soccer, floor hockey, and other activities
- Multi-purpose activity studios, for aerobics, martial arts, and fitness classes
- Natatorium with lap pool, leisure pool, 22-person spa, and sauna.
- Three-court gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball
- Wet classroom for aquatic programs, such as lifeguarding and special programs
You can become involved in Campus Recreation’s intramural sports programs as an athlete or coach to further prepare for your future career as a physical education teacher.
What You'll Learn in the Physical Education All-Grade Program
The Physical Education All-Grade major provides a solid foundation in physical education for all grade levels – high school, middle school, and elementary. You will combine theoretical coursework with practical training and qualify to sit for the physical education all-grade teaching licensure. You can complete our physical education all-grade bachelor’s degree in four years of full-time study.
Your program will conclude with a semester-long student teaching experience, which may be completed in a high school, middle school, or elementary school setting.
Transfer Credit
Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per Indiana State's transfer guidelines.
