National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy

The Indiana State University OT Program is accredited, and graduates of this program are eligible to take the National Certification Examination for the Occupational Therapist.

  • Administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Criminal background check
    • Students with a criminal background should check with the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy before applying to the Master’s program to see if they are eligible to be certified as an occupational therapist.  Please note: individuals with a felony conviction may not be able to sit for the national certification exam and will therefore not be credentialed.
  • Character Review process

After successful completion of this examination, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Most states also require licensure to practice with state licenses usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination.
