What You’ll Learn
With the Massage Therapy Minor (Non-TAM Majors) program, you will learn advanced techniques to address chronic and acute pain, including Dr. Erik Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT). The curriculum covers anatomy, physiology, and psychology, teaching how massage impacts the body’s systems.
The MAT approach provides a robust foundation in massage therapy, with an emphasis on assessment, posture, pain management, performance, and mobility. MAT is distinguished by its focus on restoring function, alleviating pain, and re-educating the body, employing innovative therapeutic strategies that aim to reduce the need for surgical interventions and reliance on medications.
In this program, you will also examine disease conditions to understand the indications and contraindications for massage, and you will gain proficiency in medical terminology necessary for SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) note documentation. The coursework will prioritize advanced assessment techniques, postural corrections, pain management strategies, performance enhancement, and mobility improvement.
