Program Highlights

The Massage Therapy Certificate program offers practical, hands-on instruction for students seeking to perform therapeutic massages using a range of techniques. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in massage therapy, focusing on assessment, posture, pain management, performance, and mobility. The program prepares graduates for the Indiana licensing exam required for massage therapists. Courses are taught by instructors in Indiana State University’s Department of Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation. 

Courses

The Massage Therapy Certificate program consists of 29 to 30 credits and includes coursework on chronic and acute pain, such as Dr. Erik Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT). The curriculum includes instruction in massage methods, pathophysiology, movement analysis, and clinical kinesiology. You will also complete 100 hours of clinical training in areas including Swedish massage, deep friction, trigger point release, myofascial release, and therapeutic stretching.

Transfer Credit

Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per Indiana State's transfer guidelines.
