The online Early Childhood Education Transition to Teaching Non-Degree Graduate Licensure is open to eligible students in the U.S. (including the District of Columbia and all U.S. territories). The program is closed to students residing in countries other than the U.S., except for U.S. military and State Department personnel and their family members with APO/FPO addresses.

Indiana State offers an online Early Childhood Education Transition to Teaching (T2T) Graduate Licensure program for those with bachelor’s degrees who want to earn an Indiana teaching license.

The non-degree program qualifies you to sit for the licensure test to teach preschool through third grade. It consists of 24 credits taken part-time over 16-18 months, starting in May, August, or January. All courses are online, and including a 10-week student teaching placement.

Emergency Teaching Permits

Important Licensure Information

You must complete the program and pass licensing tests to be recommended for an Indiana instructional license. This non-degree, early childhood graduate licensure program prepares teachers for instruction in elementary grades. What You’ll Learn in the Online Early Childhood Education Transition to Teaching Graduate Licensure Program

The online Early Childhood Education Transition to Teaching Graduate Licensure program covers preschool to third-grade development, assessment, classroom management, advanced curriculum, literacy theory, and related skills. Student teaching is required in the final semester, with a 10-week placement. Education Student Services will assist with and secure the student teaching placement.

Admission Requirements and Application Instructions 

Students may begin the program in August (fall semester), January (spring semester), or May (summer). The admission application and all application materials must be received by the following deadlines to ensure consideration for the desired semester or term.

  • Summer entry: April 1

The Indiana Department of Education establishes the admission criteria for Transition to Teaching programs.

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum requirements.

Application Instructions

Applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution.

Applicant must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; - or - an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 scale and five (5) years of professional experience; - or - proof of passing the state-approved content area examination(s) for elementary education. For information about content area exams, visit ETS.

Applicant must submit a current resume or curriculum vitae.

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is not required for admission to this program.

Next Steps

Once admitted, students receive notification from the University as well as their University ID number needed to activate their University Username on the MyISU Portal.
