The Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education (JCEHE) was an on-line, open access, refereed journal dedicated to exploring community engagement and community-based learning perspective, research, and practice.

The JCEHE was an online, open-access, refereed journal dedicated to exploring community engagement and community-based learning through scholarship, research, and practice. The journal encouraged manuscript submissions that considered diversity, equity, and inclusion in the planning and writing of the work.

With an acceptance rate of 34.1%, JCEHE published research and scholarship offering practical and theoretical insights into community engagement in higher education and across disciplines and professions. Particular emphasis was placed on case studies highlighting community engagement and engaged learning practices, methodology, and pedagogy.

The journal sought to establish and maintain a body of literature examining research and practice in community engagement. It also provided a forum for dialogue on methodological and epistemological issues, enabling diverse approaches to be subjected to critical reflection and analysis.

The Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education was published by Indiana State University.

Publication History

The journal was initially published in 2009, growing from one to multiple editions per year. The journal ceased publication in 2025.

Throughout its publication history, JCEHE provided free access to all content based on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Archived content continues to be available through the Sycamore Scholars database.
