Indiana State University, established in 1865 in Terre Haute, Indiana, is regionally recognized as one of the Best in the Midwest. With a student body of 12,000+, Indiana State effectively combines a wide range of strong academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. An NCAA Division I school and a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), the Sycamores consist of 15 teams, with 400+ student athletes and 212 All-Americans for 2019-20.

Over the years, symbols, icons, traditions and trademarks have come to represent the passion of Indiana State University alumni, fans, students, faculty and staff. Trademarks and Licensing in University Marketing was established to protect and promote the marks, names, and logos of Indiana State University.

Trademark and Licensing is currently housed under University Marketing through a contracted agreement. Collegiate Licensing Company, (formerly known as LRG/Learfield Licensing Partners) assists with monitoring commercial and internal use of the indicia. Individuals, groups, units and organizations, both on and off campus, seeking to use Indiana State University indicia must use licensed vendors and have prior final approval from the University Marketing office. Collegiate Licensing Company is responsible for the license administration of the approximately 130 vendors producing products bearing ISU trademarks.

Please help us keep the Indiana State University brand strong and request a license before printing or producing materials bearing the University’s name.

University Groups

This applies only to items used internally by Indiana State University departments or organizations, where items are not for resale. If you wish to pursue ordering items for resale to the public, contact isu-marketing@indstate.edu for more information.

Follow these steps when placing an order for merchandise bearing Indiana State University trademarks:

  1. Choose from an approved vendor from the list of licensed vendors for campus use. If you are having a unique product produced and it can’t be produced by Club Colors, University Marketing promotional items, or existing licensed vendor, please email Jake.Barton@indstate.edu. Indiana State University is partnered with Club Colors to provide campus departments and organizations with promotional items but if another vendor can produce it at a lower price than Club Colors, the lowest bid prevails. You will need an approval form from University Marketing to give to the Office of Procurement for all non-Club Color orders (see below).
  2. Review Indiana State University identity standards and the Guidelines[1]  for Merchandise to ensure that any design created follows the guidelines set forth by the university.
  3. Work with a licensed vendor to select a product and develop a design. University Marketing and the licensed vendor will communicate regarding any changes that need to be made before the order is filled.

To place an order, go to www.signaturecollection.clubcolors.com/ or contact Yaryna (Yaya) Demska at 847-744-6061 x108, or cell 773-653-0678. This site allows departments to use their procurement cards for purchases within standard approved limits (typically $3,500 per transaction). Promotional items that total more than pro-card limits should be entered on a Banner requisition. See Requisitioned Items Over $3,500 section info below. Standard university logos are already loaded on the Club Colors website and are available for you to use on your promotional items.  Any non-standard university logos and designs must first be approved by University Marketing, prior to purchase.

Promotional items not found through Club Colors, or that are found from a competitor at a lower overall cost may be purchased with a procurement card (within existing per-transaction limits). Departments should first go to the Club Colors site to create a quote for desired shirts or promotional items and if the Club Colors quote is more expensive than that of another vendor, departments may proceed with the least expensive quote for like items.

Work with the vendor for your desired design that follows the Guidelines[1] . Send the vendor’s art design file to Jake prior to purchasing on the procurement card. Once the design is approved, Jake will provide an approval form that should be sent to the Procurement Card Auditor in the Controller’s Office, along with your current cycle procurement card receipts. If the order is over $3,500, send this approval form to the Office of Procurement along with the other info below.

Current restrictions from University Marketing include the use of the new university mark, on all printed materials (flyers, catalogs, etc), when space permits, subject to review and approval. Upon request, University Marketing will develop a logo for departments to be used for shirt and other promotional item orders. Please allow adequate time for staff to combine department requests into their regular work queue, as well as two working weeks to complete the bid/order process if ordering on a Banner requisition.

Promotional items totaling under $3,500 can be ordered on a procurement card as long as the guidelines listed above are followed.  For the purchase of items totaling over $3,500, or beyond your per-transaction procard limit, a Banner requisition must be used.

Provide as much descriptive information as possible in the line item text section, including:

1. Date of when you need the finished product (most important!)
2. Quantity
3. Fabric brand and blend of material (if applicable) such as Gildan all cotton, 50/50 poly-cotton, etc.
4. Sizes of apparel in men’s and women’s sizes, if applicable.
5. Color of items, apparel, etc. (i.e., blue shirt)
6. Color of logos (i.e., white imprint or embroidery)
7. Location of logo imprint if applicable (i.e., left breast, front center, back center, sleeve)
8. Type of color/logo application, such as imprint or embroidery for apparel. For more color codes, click here

Email the info above, the art design, approval form from University Marketing, and Banner requisition number to Kara.Sterling@indstate.edu in the Office of Procurement.

When people look at Indiana State University logos, they do not just see the logo. They see degrees and instructors, student organizations and club sports teams, storied traditions, a quintessential college campus, legendary coaches, and athletic events. To them, Indiana State University’s logos represent the sum of many cherished memories, events, experiences, and relationships associated with their beloved university.

How people – alumni, students, future students, faculty and staff, fans, donors, and the public at large – feel about Indiana State University directly relates to the University’s success. In a sense, the logo speaks on the University’s behalf without saying a word. It represents who we are and what we stand for. It is the visual representation of our reputation.

Therefore, it is vital to build and maintain a strong logo, a strong visual identity. To accomplish this, the logos must be used in a consistent way. They must appear the same in every instance. They must have the proper shades of Blue, be properly aligned and be in the proper proportions.

The standards laid out in the links below establish the rules for the University’s logos and additional identity marks, such as emblems, word marks, and photos. You will find what you need to know about using Indiana State University word marks, trademarks, and logos on products and merchandise. Proper and legal use of the logos protects the University’s image and distinguishes us from other institutions.

We appreciate your willingness to support, protect and advance the image of Indiana State University. If you need additional information regarding the use of  Indiana State University’s brand on products and merchandise, visit Trademark and Licensing or contact University Marketing at 812-237-8491.

Vendors

The University has partnered with CLC to provide over 130 licensed vendors. These vendors can produce just about any product imaginable and distribute these products across the region.  For a complete list of the University’s licensed vendors, please contact University Marketing.

If you are a vendor who is interested in obtaining a license, below are the University’s license types. University Marketing and CLC will aid individuals, companies, departments, and organizations in securing the proper agreements and forms.

Retail license:

  • Allows a company to produce products bearing the trademarks of collegiate institutions for sale at retail in approved retail channels and direct to consumer, as well as university departments and related entities.

Internal license:

  • Allows a company to produce product bearing the trademarks of collegiate institutions for university departments and related entities for internal consumption only; cannot provide product at retailer direct to consumer. (This does not include sales to the University Bookstore.)
  • The University has two internal license types - royalty bearing and royalty exempt. It is recommended that all vendors applying for an internal license apply for both types so the vendor can fulfill all potential orders from internal departments and organizations.

Quick reference guide to CLC license types

The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) is responsible for processing standard license applications. If you have questions for CLC’s application processing team, please contact them at requests@clc.com.
