220 Academic Renewal

Indiana State University provides Academic Renewal as an option to returning undergraduate degree-seeking students who have been out of school for a significant period of time and whose previous academic performance is not indicative of the academic work of which they are now capable. Academic Renewal recognizes that such students are often hampered by a previous, low grade point average, and it offers them the opportunity to use only those classes, taken after readmission, in the computation of their Indiana State University grade point average. Academic Renewal can occur only once, and it is irreversible. Readmission is facilitated by Enrollment Management. Ongoing student support is facilitated by the University Student Success and Advising Center.

The following conditions apply for eligibility: 

1. Two or more years must have passed between the student’s previous ISU enrollment and the current term of readmission; 
2. Student must not have earned a degree from ISU; 
3. Student must be degree-seeking; 
4. Only after completion of a minimum of 12 credits with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher; will the student be granted academic renewal. 
5. All academic requirements in place at the time of readmission must be met.
6. The Dean (or the Dean's designate) will review the previous record and determine applicability of ISU courses that carry a grade of "D-" or higher to the program of study.
7. The hours accepted for use from the current program will appear as part of the total hours earned but will not count as attempted hours for the GPA. 
8. Students must complete at least 30 credits of Indiana State University course work after readmission to earn a degree.
9.  The transcript will indicate that Academic Renewal has been granted. "F" grades will show on the transcript but not count in the GPA, in the same manner as repeated courses. The recorded cumulative GPA will start from the semester the student is readmitted to Indiana State University. For Graduation with Latin Honors, all courses, even those that have undergone Academic Renewal, will be incorporated into the Latin Honors GPA calculation.
10. Academic Renewal can occur only once, and it is irreversible.
