Indiana State University’s Bayh College of Education welcomed more than 100 educators from across the region on Thursday for the inaugural TeacherTok Sycamore Summit, a one-day professional development conference designed to inspire, support, and connect educators at every stage of their careers.
Hosted at the Hulman Memorial Student Union, the summit brought together classroom teachers, instructional leaders, and future educators for a day of practical learning, collaboration, and encouragement. Blending the energy of the online TeacherTok community with the expertise of accomplished classroom professionals, the conference focused on providing real-world strategies that educators could immediately implement in their schools.
"This summit reflects Indiana State University's long-standing commitment to preparing, supporting, and celebrating educators," said Andrea Forcum, assistant professor of teaching and learning at Indiana State University and one of the event organizers and presenters. "Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions, but it also comes with significant challenges. Our goal was to create a space where educators left feeling equipped, connected, and inspired to continue making a difference in the lives of their students."
Featured speakers included Charles Fournier, an innovative educator, speaker, and advocate for teacher resilience whose work focuses on strengthening the systems that support and sustain today’s educators; Matt Miller, a globally recognized educator, author, and speaker known for his transformative work in educational technology and innovative teaching practices. As the author of the influential book Ditch That Textbook, Miller has helped educators across the country rethink traditional instruction and embrace more engaging, student-centered approaches to learning; Andrea Forcum, assistant professor of teaching and learning at Indiana State University and nationally recognized education content creator; and Gaspare Randazzo, an award-winning educator, nationally recognized comedian, and engaging speaker who brought a distinctive and impactful voice to conversations about teaching and learning.
Unlike traditional professional development conferences, the TeacherTok Sycamore Summit emphasized authentic conversations, practical classroom solutions, and the importance of educator well-being. Sessions explored classroom management strategies, student engagement, teacher retention, resiliency, and maintaining passion for teaching in today’s educational environment.
Participants left the summit with:
