Two Indiana State University graduates have begun their professional careers with Federated Insurance, demonstrating the impact of industry engagement opportunities that connect Sycamore students with employers long before graduation.
Christian Bergeron and Alysha Stewart recently joined Federated Insurance's Indianapolis Claims Office as career hires within the company's Federated Claims Department after building relationships with company representatives through a variety of networking and professional development events offered through Indiana State University's Scott College of Business.
Both graduates connected with Federated Insurance representatives through Dr. David Fleming, Professor of Marketing and Director of the Scott College of Business Sales & Negotiations Center, as well as the Scott College of Business Coffee Corner events, the Enterprise Sales Career Exploration event, Sales Circle of Influence dinners, the 2025 IRM Golf Outing, and Gamma Iota Sigma programming led by Dr. Jin Park, professor in the Scott College of Business and advisor to Gamma Iota Sigma. Those interactions allowed students to engage directly with industry professionals, learn about career opportunities, and establish relationships that ultimately led to full-time employment.
"We are incredibly grateful for the relationships that led to connecting with and hiring these impressive Indiana State University students to fill vital roles within the Federated Claims Department," said Donald K. Fronek, Regional Claims Manager for Federated Insurance. "Our partnership with Indiana State continues to be rooted in the strength of its people, and we are genuinely excited about the future and the opportunities ahead."
Fronek said Federated remains committed to providing a workplace where young professionals can grow, develop, and thrive while making meaningful contributions to the company and its clients.
The hires highlight Indiana State University's commitment to providing students with career-connected learning experiences that bridge the gap between academic preparation and professional success. Through partnerships with employers and opportunities to engage with industry leaders, students gain valuable insights and establish connections that can lead directly to internships and full-time careers.
"This is exactly the type of outcome we hope to create for our students," said Dr. Park. "When students take advantage of opportunities to connect with employers, participate in professional organizations, and build relationships with industry leaders, they position themselves for success after graduation. Christian and Alysha are excellent examples of how those experiences can translate into rewarding careers."
Federated Insurance continues to expand its presence in Indiana and has announced plans to add five additional positions in its Indianapolis Claims Office this September. The company is also actively recruiting for its Summer 2027 internship program, focused on students entering their junior year of college.
The continued partnership between Indiana State University and Federated Insurance reflects a shared commitment to developing talent and creating pathways to career success for students and graduates.
