Program Availability
The Civic Leadership Certificate program is open to currently enrolled students (except Political Science BA and Legal Studies BS majors) who wish to increase employability. The program is particularly suited for students interested in politics, philanthropic work, activism, and related fields. Students should consult with their advisors before enrolling in courses to ensure suitability and to plan their program of study.

Program Highlights
The Civic Leadership Certificate program allows students to learn how individuals and organizations make positive changes in politics and communities. There are growing contemporary issues that could be solved through activism and leadership. Students in the Civic Leadership Certificate program learn how to develop and implement responses to these issues through a perspective centered on politics, philanthropy, and business.
Courses
To earn the certificate in civic leadership, you will complete nine credits focusing on state and local government, and leadership, ethics, and democracy. You will take an additional six credits in elective courses, selecting between persuasion theories, public policy, and student activism in theory and practice.
Transfer Credit
Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per these transfer guidelines.
Career Possibilities
As a student in the Civic Leadership Certificate program, you will be prepared to solve social challenges, learn leadership skills related to politics and social change, and make an impact in your community. You will be an engaged citizen and work with other community partners, most likely in positions that work closely in politics, philanthropic non-profit organizations, government agencies, and other business sectors. The certificate program also prepares students for graduate programs or law school.
