The ISU Health Center (UAP Clinic) at Indiana State University provides a range of services for students and employees. These include COVID-19 symptomatic testing, treatment for acute injuries, allergy shots, asthma and COPD care, immunizations, and management of various health issues such as fever, headaches, and sore throats. Union Health  and Indiana State University entered into a partnership as a cost-effective way to continue providing high quality healthcare to Indiana State students. UAP Clinic leverages its core business as a healthcare provider to assist the University to enhance services available via the Health Center. 

UAP Clinic is a primary and specialty care medical practice with nine clinics throughout Terre Haute. The UAP family of clinics, comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants and more than 500 staff members, offers services in 21 medical specialties. 

Indiana State clinical staff at the Health Center have access to state-of-the-art electronic health records.

All undergraduate and graduate students taking one or more credit hours at Indiana State are eligible to receive services at the Health Center. Students must present a valid University ID card in order to receive services. 

Students seeking services from the Health Center should bring their insurance cards to their appointments. UAP Clinic - ISU Health Center participates in many insurance plans. However, payment of plan co-payments is expected at the time of service. Any balance left unpaid by the insurance company will be sent to the person listed as guarantor. 

Our Staff and Services 

The clinical employees at the Health Center are UAP Clinic employees. The Health Center is staffed by a nurse practitioner, laboratory and x-ray techs, nurse and support staff. In the fall, physicians supplement the clinical staff at the Health Center. 

Services available at the Health Center include immunizations, men's and women's health services, educational materials, STD screenings/counseling, and limited amounts of prepackaged medications.

The ISU Health Center (UAP Clinic) provides high quality care to students & employees of Indiana State University. The center accepts private insurance and participates in many insurance plans. Students should bring their insurance card in addition to their University ID card. Payment of the plan co-payments is expected at the time of service. Any balance left unpaid by the insurance company will be sent to the person listed as guarantor. We accept the Associated Insurance Plan, private insurance, cash, check or credit cards.

Available Care, Insurance, Co-Pays and Other Information

All undergraduate and graduate students taking one or more credit hours at Indiana State and ISU current employees are eligible to receive services at the Health Center. Students must present a valid University ID card upon arrival.

Pharmacy Services are available through the UAP Clinic pharmacy located just north of campus. The UAP Clinic Pharmacy offers delivery service to campus (upon request and picked up at the Health Center) for prescriptions and accepts most insurances. Contact the Pharmacy at 812-242-3855. 

Fees can be billed to health insurance. Students and employees need to bring in their insurance cards. There is no co-pay for injections only. The shots are given 8:30-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:30 p.m. No appointment is needed. 

The center accepts private insurance and participates in many insurance plans. Students should bring their insurance card in addition to their University ID card. Students with insurance coverage need to bring their cards with them when they visit the Health Center. Plan co-payments are due at the time of service. Any balance due after insurance will be billed to the guarantor. 

Students without insurance coverage are required to pay the office visit fee at the time of their visit. The fees are as follows: 

  • New Patient - $20 
  • Established Patient - $15 
  • Preventative Visit New and Established Patient - $25 

It is important to note there may be charges for radiology, laboratory, physical therapy, immunization, urgent care services, special procedures, medications, and supplies at the Health Center. In this case, a payment plan for any remaining balance can be established. 

Failure to comply with the immunization requirements will result in an immunization hold being placed on your account preventing you from registering for the next semester. 

The following immunizations are required for admission by the State of Indiana and Indiana State University. 

  • 2 MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - Doses must be at least 28 days apart with the first dose given after 12 months of age. 
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td or Tdap) - Must have received dose within the last 10 years. 
  • Meningitis Conjugate - Must have received one dose on or after 16th birthday and is required of all incoming students 23 years of age or younger. 
  • Meningitis B - Students who are 24 years old or younger must receive a complete Meningitis B series - Can be Bexsero (2 doses) or Trumenba (2-3 doses). 
  • Tuberculosis - International students must receive the Quantiferon Gold Blood Test - We do not accept any other TB tests. Test must be performed in the United States.

What is Tuberculosis? 

  • Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by germs that are spread from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine. A person with TB can die if they do not get treatment. 
  • The general symptoms of TB disease include feelings of sickness or weakness, weight loss, fever, and night sweats. The symptoms of TB disease of the lungs also include coughing, chest pain, and the coughing up of blood. Symptoms of TB disease in other parts of the body depend on the area affected. 
  • TB germs are put into the air when a person with active TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. These germs can stay in the air for several hours, depending on the environment. Persons who breathe in the air containing these TB germs can become infected; this is called latent TB infection. 
  • People with latent TB infection have TB germs in their bodies, but they are not sick because the germs are not active. These people do not have symptoms of TB disease, and they cannot spread the germs to others. However, they may develop TB disease in the future. They are often prescribed treatment to prevent them from developing TB disease. 
  • People with TB disease are sick from TB germs that are active, meaning that they are multiplying and destroying tissue in their body. They usually have symptoms of TB disease. People with TB disease of the lungs or throat are capable of spreading germs to others. They are prescribed drugs that can treat TB disease. 

State Requirements for International Students 

  • All international students coming to Indiana State university are required to have a Quantiferon blood test for Tuberculosis. 
  • The blood test is drawn in the lab at the Student Health Center on Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. 
  • The results will come to the Student Health Center and the international student will be notified. If the result is positive, the student will be required to have a chest x-ray and further lab work. 
  • If the chest x-ray rules out active disease the student will receive medication to be taken daily for a period of 12 weeks. 
  • If the chest finds active diseases the Student Health Center will conduct required follow up activities with the Vigo County Health Department to determine if indeed it is a case of active TB.
