Welcome to the Summer Semester at Indiana State University!
Course registration for Summer begins in early-April. Remember: summer requires a separate application for Financial Aid, which will be available in mid-April. Summer processing begins mid-May. If you are unable to find the Summer information you are looking for, contact us!
Eligibility
To be eligible, the student must:
- Apply
- Students must have a 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file by June 30, 2025.
- Students must complete a Summer Aid Request Form no later than July 25, 2025. We are unable to guarantee approval of late submissions.
- Students requesting Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans must submit the Summer Aid Request Form prior to the last day of the session(s) in which the student is enrolled.
- Be degree-seeking at ISU.
- Students are required to be seeking ISU degrees or eligible teacher certifications in order to receive federal financial aid. This is a federal requirement.
- ISU students who wish to take classes from other institutions for transfer to their ISU degree programs must complete and submit this Consortium Agreement to allow ISU to process their financial aid for credit earned at other institutions.
- Visiting students (pursuing degrees from other institutions and taking classes at ISU during the summer) should have a consortium agreement completed between the two schools to allow their home schools to process summer aid while including their ISU hours of enrollment. Not all schools participate in consortium arrangements. Check with your home school for details.
- Make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Enroll at least half-time.
- All summer terms are combined for financial aid enrollment purposes.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 combined credit hours for half-time status.
- Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 5 credit hours for half-time status.
NOTE: Students must be enrolled and attending at least half-time for Federal Direct Loans to disburse. Disbursement occurs when student reaches half-time enrollment. Students should be prepared to pay for initial expenses themselves if facing this enrollment situation.
Types of Aid
Financial aid for the summer is limited. For many students, eligibility is limited to the remaining amount of Federal Student Loans (if the student did not borrow their entire allocation during the academic year).
In addition, if funding is available, students may be able to use the following award types:
- CVO, Child of Certain Veterans and Public Safety Officer Supplemental Grant
- The student must submit a one-time application in ScholarTrack. Application will be routed for review with the following:
- Child or Spouse of Indiana National Guard by Indiana National Guard
- Child or Spouse of a Public Safety Officers by Commissions for Higher Education
- Child of Disabled Veteran or Child of Purple Heart Recipients by Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs
- Former Student of Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home by Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs
- Indiana Purple Heart Recipients by Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs
- The student must submit a one-time application in ScholarTrack. Application will be routed for review with the following:
- Federal Pell Grant
- See below for details
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- Must be enrolled/attending 3 credit hours before June 30, 2025.
- Summer award amount is $250.
- Staff/Spouse/Dependent Employee Fee Waiver
- Summer Graduation Initiative
- Available for graduating seniors in their last semester. See below for details.
- Loans
Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan - must complete a Summer Aid Request Form. The following loan options do not need a summer aid request form on file to be able to process. Note that these options could be subjected to a credit check (credit checks are good for 180 days).
Note that the options above require a separate application. Be sure to select Summer 2025 when choosing a term. Loan eligibility is based on academic standing at the beginning of the academic year. For summer 2025, class standing for undergraduates will be evaluated on Fall 2024.

State Fast Track
A program for Indiana students with the need for speed! Open to 21st Century Scholars and recipients of Frank O'Bannon grants (Indiana Higher Education Awards).
- You must have earned 30 or more credit hours in the prior academic year.
- Be in good academic standing (Satisfactory Academic Progress, SAP).
- You may qualify for either a half-time or full-time award, depending on summer enrollment.
- You must have remaining eligibility (have received fewer than 8 semesters of State awards).
- If you choose to use it, State Fast Track can only be used for tuition and fees.
- You must fill out a simple application on ScholarTrack to qualify for the State Fast Track award.

ISU Summer On Track
The ISU Summer On Track Award information listed is subject to change. We hope to have these details verified soon.
Open to 21st Century Scholars and recipients of the Frank O'Bannon grant (Indiana Higher Education Awards) who are just short of the hours they need to meet the 90 credit hour requirement to remain eligible for next year. Credit bank hours recorded on ScholarTrack are taken into account and can be applied towards a student's state award for the upcoming academic year. If the number of bank hours you have listed along with the credit hours earned during the academic year equal at least 90, you are not eligible for ISU Summer On Track Award.
- By the end of the spring term, you must have earned at least 84 credit hours but fewer than 90 credit hours.
- Be in good academic standing (Satisfactory Academic Progress, SAP).
- The program will pay for only the hours you need to help reach 90 hours (maximum 6 hours).
- Education Abroad and Consortium Agreement hours in the summer term are not eligible. Students must be enrolled in hours offered by ISU.

Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is now available in the summer to undergraduate students! See the requirements below to see if you are eligible.
- Must be Pell eligible per your FAFSA Student Summary. The summer payment period at ISU is attached to the prior award year so be sure to file the correct FAFSA. (Example: to get a Pell grant in the summer 2025, you must have a 24-25 FAFSA on file.)
- Enrollment will be locked into the system in early July. The Federal Pell Grant amount will reflect your enrollment as of this date. Should you have any questions in regards to this process, contact our office
- Be in good academic standing (Satisfactory Academic Progress, SAP).
- You must have remaining eligibility (have received fewer than 12 semesters of Pell Grant awards).
- Using Pell in the summer will use up some of your eligibility for later semesters, depending on enrollment.
- If you are eligible for the Pell Grant and enroll in summer classes, you will automatically be awarded Year-Round Pell. No need to apply.

Summer Graduation Initiative

If you're not able to complete your degree by May, ISU is offering a special opportunity to help you complete your degree this summer. If you have 15 or fewer credit hours to complete in order to graduate, then you may qualify to participate in a special opportunity that will provide discounted summer tuition. In order to qualify for this Summer Graduation Initiative, you must:
- Have started at ISU during the fall semester of 2021 as a new freshman.
- Complete a plan of study with your academic advisor to ensure you are eligible to graduate this summer.
- Register for all summer classes necessary to meet graduation requirements.
- Successfully complete all summer classes.
ISU will discount your summer tuition by 50% if you pass all of your classes and graduate by August.
If you desire to participate in this opportunity, complete the two documents below and turn them to your college Dean's Office by no later than 5 working days prior to the start of your first summer class. Other Policies
- Withdrawal: Aid is calculated based upon enrollment and is subject to change at any time based on credit hours or non-attendance. Students who are considering dropping or withdrawing from classes should speak about this issue with a financial aid counselor prior to changing their class schedules. To officially withdraw, students must contact the Office of Registration and Records.
- Basic eligibility rules apply.
- Refunds are issued on a rolling basis as aid disburses. Federal Direct Loans disburses when the student begins his or her 6th credit hour of enrollment (5th hour for graduate students). For many students, this means the refund will not be issued until after the start of summer classes. Federal Pell Grants typically disburse 3 days before the beginning of each course.
