The Geographic Information Science Certificate program is open to currently enrolled students who wish to increase their employability. The program is especially suited for students in the Department of Earth and Environmental Systems, and for those interested in learning more about geospatial technologies, remote sensing, and related topics in field geography. Program Highlights

Students in the Geographic Information Science Certificate program focus their studies on geographic information science, the research field used to redefine geographic concepts and how they impact individuals and societies. Many courses are hands-on with laboratory work, and students conduct research in the economic, environmental, physical, and social phenomena related to geoscience fields.

Courses

The Geographic Information Science Certificate program consists of six required credits with an additional nine credits in elective courses. Courses introduce students to geospatial technologies and automated cartography. In the elective courses, students may choose between the following topics:

  • Fundamentals of Remote Sensing
  • Close Range Remote Sensing
  • Remote Sensing: Introductory Digital Image Processing
  • Remote Sensing: Advanced Digital Image Processing
  • Topics in Geospatial Technology
  • Geoprocessing
  • Field Geography of the United States

Transfer Credit

Indiana State University accepts credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities within the United States, and from selected schools located outside the United States. Credit also may be granted for military training and experience. Previously earned college credit can be applied toward completion of the program per these transfer guidelines.
